In order to apply for family housing at Fort Story, prospective residents must submit an application. Applications can be made on-line on our website or by faxing it to us at 757-962-3512. If you do not have an AKO, please contact our office at 757-962-3511.

In addition, you will need to provide:

  • A copy of your official orders bringing you to Fort Story
  • A current, official DEERS enrollment-(DD1172) showing proof of your dependants
  • A current LES
  • A copy of your ID card

You may also fax the necessary paperwork to us at 757-962-3512.

Once you arrive to Fort Story and check in with your command, you will need to provide:

  • A copy of your stamped orders
  • A copy of your leave papers, if you took leave while on route to Fort Story

The Community Management Office is located at 560 A Cape Henry Road, right next to the black and white lighthouse.

A Resident Specialist will welcome you to Fort Story, answer your housing questions and assure that we have all of your necessary documentation. Depending on availability, you will either be offered appropriate housing or be placed on the Wait List.

The following information is provided for your convenience:

  • Once you have arranged phone, service please provide our office with the number.
     
  • Renter’s Insurance: additional renter’s insurance is recommended.
     
  • Move in Day: Once you are offered a home, the move-in orientation is usually scheduled in advance during normal business hours. Please allow 45-60 minutes to review and sign the necessary paperwork.
     
  • Please remember that we will prorate the month you move in and that all monies for that month are due at move in and must be paid by CERTIFIED FUND or CREDIT CARD. (i.e. cashiers check, money order or bank draft) The allotment option can only be started on the 1st of the month and will be withdrawn twice from your LES on the 15th and 1st of every month as allotments are paid in arrears.
     
  • Lease Agreement: Lease is for 12 months. Please do not hesitate to ask the Resident Specialist, assisting with your orientation about anything you do not fully understand.
     
  • Box Disposal: After unpacking your boxes, please remember to flatten them and dispose of them with your recyclables or at the Recycling Center located behind the Football Field.
